Retraction: Casting Otherkin for new Animal Planet tv show NOT a hoax

Well, I've finally heard back from zig zag directly regarding this, and verified the headers of the emails I've received. And the verdict is: I was wrong. As it turns out, the casting call IS legitimately affiliated with them. As sloppy and unprofessional as it all may have been, it's real. Though I still don't know why a California based casting director working for a New York and UK based production company sent emails from Massachusetts.

The two emails I've received so far are reproduced below in their entirety, headers and all:

Someone should get back to you ASAP. Many Thanks =20 ________________________________ From: Jarandhel Dreamsinger [mailto:jarandhel@gmail.com]=20 Sent: 12 January 2011 06:04 To: Alex Stockley; Production Subject: Otherkin Casting? =20 I'm sorry if I'm not sending this message to the right person... I'd tried sending it to the email address given for the US office previously, and received an out of office autoreply from Mia Freedman on Saturday. Since then, I've received no further response. A online community of which I am a member has been receiving a number of emails and posts which claim to be by the casting department of Zig Zag Productions putting together a show for Animal Planet. These emails and posts use an email address of otherkincasting@gmail.com for soliciting replies. This address, and the fact that the IP address associated with the emails is based in Massachusetts while you are a UK company with offices in New York, seem somewhat suspicious and we're just wondering if they are actually legitimate or not. All we really need is a firm yes this is really from you, or a no it's not. Here is the full text of one of the emails we have received: Hello, I'm casting a new Animal Planet show following members of the Otherkin community. The intent of the show is to educate and explore all things Otherkin, so we are seeking authentic members of the Otherkin community only, and all Species are welcome. The series will document the lifestyle and beliefs of five individuals, while exploring through their eyes, what it means to be Otherkin in America. Those chosen to be featured on the show must be comfortable discussing their beliefs and showing their lifestyle on camera. This is a great opportunity to raise awareness and be heard. If you are interested, or know of someone who may be, please reply to otherkincasting@gmail.com with the following info... 1) NAME 2) CITY 3) SPECIES 4) MAIN REASON FOR WANTING TO DO SHOW 5) CONTACT NUMBER 6) RECENT PHOTO Thank you for your submission, someone from our casting team will be in touch shortly. Casting Department Otherkincasting@gmail.com The information about being connected with Zig Zag came from another email, which a community member received after replying to this initial one. Thank you for your prompt attention in this matter. We really just want to avoid being scammed. -Jarin ------_=_NextPart_001_01CBB255.7C2F3928 Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <html xmlns:v=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:vml" = xmlns:o=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" = xmlns:w=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:word" = xmlns:st1=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" = xmlns=3D"http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-html40"> <head> <META HTTP-EQUIV=3D"Content-Type" CONTENT=3D"text/html; = charset=3Dus-ascii"> <meta name=3DGenerator content=3D"Microsoft Word 11 (filtered medium)"> <!--[if !mso]> <style> v\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} o\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} w\:* {behavior:url(#default#VML);} .shape {behavior:url(#default#VML);} </style> <![endif]--><o:SmartTagType namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" = name=3D"State"/> <o:SmartTagType = namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name=3D"country-region"/> <o:SmartTagType = namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name=3D"place"/> <o:SmartTagType = namespaceuri=3D"urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" name=3D"PersonName"/> <!--[if !mso]> <style> st1\:*{behavior:url(#default#ieooui) } </style> <![endif]--> <style> <!-- /* Font Definitions */ @font-face {font-family:Tahoma; panose-1:2 11 6 4 3 5 4 4 2 4;} @font-face {font-family:"Century Gothic"; panose-1:2 11 5 2 2 2 2 2 2 4;} /* Style Definitions */ p.MsoNormal, li.MsoNormal, div.MsoNormal {margin:0cm; margin-bottom:.0001pt; font-size:12.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} a:link, span.MsoHyperlink {color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} a:visited, span.MsoHyperlinkFollowed {color:blue; text-decoration:underline;} span.EmailStyle17 {mso-style-type:personal-reply; font-family:"Century Gothic"; color:blue; font-weight:normal; font-style:normal; text-decoration:none none;} @page Section1 {size:595.3pt 841.9pt; margin:72.0pt 90.0pt 72.0pt 90.0pt;} div.Section1 {page:Section1;} --> </style> </head> <body lang=3DEN-GB link=3Dblue vlink=3Dblue> <div class=3DSection1> <p class=3DMsoNormal><font size=3D2 color=3Dblue face=3D"Century = Gothic"><span style=3D'font-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Century Gothic";color:blue'>Hi = Jarendhel &#8211; this is indeed a legitimate post from our <st1:country-region = w:st=3D"on">USA</st1:country-region> office; I have asked them to respond to you in more detail as we are not = fully across the research in the <st1:country-region w:st=3D"on"><st1:place = w:st=3D"on">UK</st1:place></st1:country-region> office and I think a freelancer is working on their behalf thus the = disparity in email addresses.
